About Umthi
Hi! My name is Lolita. I own Umthi and I hand-make these products for you.
I do this because I want everyone to be able to have fabulous-quality, organic, gentle, natural products for their hair.
How I got interested in natural hair products
I started getting interested in low-chemical, organic products after I had to take some nasty medication that really damaged my hair and scalp. My usual products had all these unnecessary chemicals and additives – I wanted something really natural, something I could trust.
So I started mixing my own products, using the purest ingredients I could find. When I hit on a few winning formulas, I roped in all my friends to try them out. It’s taken me a few years of hard work (and some tears and some joy) but the result is Umthi.
So, are these products for you?
These are for you if you have curls, kinks or coils. I am Black (born in South Africa), my partner Adam is white Australian (he used to have hair… ) and I have two kids – so we have three different curl types in the house. Yes, I get all the brittle hair problems…
These are for you if you want something handmade, totally trustworthy, as natural as possible and gentle enough to use on your little ones as well as on yourself.
These are for you if you want to lighten the burden on the planet by using a little less plastic, consuming a little less, using a little less chemicals and being a little more organic.
